eKuchareczka
A food blog that suggests what to cook today
Home page
The eKuchareczka blog has published recipes and cooking tips since 2009. I designed its new version with a daily seasonal menu and a four-question dish finder.
“Today’s menu” card
For Christmas, the card suggests beetroot borscht, mushroom pierogi and kutia, a sweet wheat and poppy seed dish. The title and dishes change with the season, and “Try another menu” suggests a different set.
4-question dish finder
Readers say what they feel like eating, what they have in the kitchen, how much time they have and who they are cooking for, and they get the best-matching recipe plus further options with a match percentage.
In season this month
The month’s produce appears as tabs showing the number of recipes, and under each tab readers find four dishes and a link to all recipes using that ingredient.
Post with cooking mode
The cover shows the time, difficulty and cuisine, and cooking mode displays just the recipe in large text, with ingredients to tick off and a screen that stays on.
The eKuchareczka food blog has been running since 2009 and has 286 posts, including home recipes, cooking tips and food stories. After auditing the current website, I catalogued every post by dish, ingredients, season, time and difficulty, and on that basis designed a calendar-driven menu of the day and a four-question dish finder. From the very first screen, readers get a suggestion for today, and in the kitchen they can use a cooking mode that keeps the phone screen on.

01Challenge
The blog has been running since 2009 and has 286 posts, but the home page opens with the most recent post and the recipe index needs fixing. The new version had to keep all URLs and the blog’s history, have a light, delicate look and suggest what to cook today from the very first screen.
02Solution
- I audited the current website and built the catalogue that the blog’s new features rely on, describing all 286 posts by dish, ingredients, season and time.
- I designed a restaurant-style “Today’s menu” card with three courses, whose title and set of dishes change with the month and with 13 occasions throughout the year.
- I created a four-question dish finder that recommends the best-matching recipe with an explanation, plus six more with a match percentage.
- I developed a cooking mode that shows just the recipe in large text and keeps the phone screen from switching off while the reader is cooking.
